Wireless network-enabled broadband delivery of application-driven rich media content, information and interactive functionality ideally suited for 'open space' tourism services such as a park, castle or city district. This unique Node application will be designed specifically for Bristol Ferry Boat Company, which is a key component of the Bristol area tourism offering.

The Bristol Ferry Boat Company (BFBC) will work with MousePower Productions and Node to enable passengers to explore the harbour in a unique way by greatly enhancing the visitor experience.

Using portable, handheld technology (provided by Mobile Bristol) in a broadband wireless environment, visitors will be able to access the rich history of the Bristol docks, learn from compelling natural history information, hear fascinating narratives about the harbourside, and interact with each other and with the ferry staff.

Presently, the Bristol Ferry Boat Company (BFBC) provides both commuter and tourist services. The tourist services represent the greatest opportunity for business growth. The Bristol Ferry Boat Company is a key component of Bristol's unique floating harbour community which itself is an integral feature of the South West.

Node will enable the BFBC to greatly expand its tourism offering. The Node solution will position the BFBC as an integral information and narrative link between tourist attractions - more than just transportation between them. The BFBC experience is in an open environment and 'on the move'. Therefore, traditional kiosks and other static information methods are inadequate. Wireless broadband delivery of rich media content in an interactive application to handheld devices is the way for the BFBC to augment, deepen and enhance its appeal to tourists.

The Node solution will further establish the distinctive voice and identity of the Bristol Ferry Boat Company as a vital component of Bristol's cultural landscape.
