Abstract: This poster describes a two day workshop
conducted with children aged 11-12 in which they designed and created
soundscapes. This was a first stage in examining the potential of
wearable computing devices to extend children’s mobility and
play opportunities within the urban environment. Such opportunities
are a crucial part of child development but are often curtailed
by real and perceived threats. The creation of the soundscapes was
followed by a brainstorm session in which the children suggest directions
for application and technology development that would augment their
experience of outdoor environments.
